Job Description: Quality Manager – Sanand Plant
Position Overview
We are seeking a high-caliber, detail-oriented Quality Manager with 12 + years of manufacturing quality assurance experience to manage quality for key products at the Ingersoll Rand India, Sanand Plant. reporting directly to the Quality Leader, he will hold end-to-end accountability across Supplier Quality, In-Process Quality, and Customer Quality for the assigned product verticals.
He will govern the entire quality lifecycle—from evaluating Tendering Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs) through production, testing, customer clearance, and final Site Commissioning. This role spans a diverse portfolio of standard Make-to-Order (MTO) products and complex, custom Engineered-to-Order (ETO) systems, including advanced Air Compressors, Biogas Compressors, and Air Treatment systems (Industrial Dryers and Gas Generators), directly driving operational excellence to support India business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Lifecycle Quality Governance & Tendering
- Pre-Order Execution: Review customer specifications during the bidding phase; author and align Tendering QAPs and Manufacturing Phase Plans (MPPs) to ensure contract compliance before project kickoff.
- Cost of Quality (COPQ): Analyze plant quality performance data to identify defect trends, implementing systematic Root Cause Analysis and CAPA to aggressively reduce overall COPQ.
- QMS Compliance: Maintain, audit, and improve plant certification standards (ISO 9001 and specific global capital equipment manufacturing regulations).
1. Supplier Quality Management (SQM)
- Supplier Governance: Lead technical, process, and capacity audits at supplier facilities; manage Supplier Parts Per Million (SPPM) and component defect rates.
- Part Qualification: Drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and PPAP to qualify castings, pressure vessels, instrumentation, and critical sub-assemblies.
- Material Disposition: Manage incoming non-conformance reports (NCRs) and issue Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) to eliminate recurring component defects.
2. In-Process Quality Assurance
- Build Gateways: Implement and manage strict stage-gate inspections across core shop floor build disciplines:
- Assembly Quality: Verify mechanical alignment, structural integrity, and piping integration tolerances.
- Controls Quality: Audit electrical panel wiring, instrumentation integration, loop checks, and automation programming.
- Testing Quality: Validate high-pressure pneumatic, hydraulic, and performance testing under design parameters.
- Shop Floor Isolation: Govern the Material Review Board (MRB) to systematically isolate, evaluate, and resolve in-process defects without bottlenecking the assembly lines.
3. Customer Quality & Commissioning
- Inspection & Clearance: Anchor formal Customer Inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT); interface directly with global clients and Third-Party Inspection Agencies (TPIAs) to clear punch-lists and secure project dispatch authorization.
- Commissioning Feedback: Coordinate with field services to track early-hour field failures at site installation, embedding commissioning insights back into plant quality workflows.
Quality Metrics Competency
The Plant Quality Manager must demonstrate advanced proficiency in monitoring, analyzing, and driving continuous improvement across these core quality matrices:
- First Time Right (FTR): Drive FTR yield across assembly, control wiring, and initial test runs to minimize internal rework.
- Customer Inspection Defect Rate: Target zero-defect outcomes during formal customer witness inspections and final TPI Clearances.
- Supplier PPM (SPPM): Monitor and reduce supplier-end defects through rigorous incoming protocols and supplier quality engineering.
- MRB Turnaround Time: Optimize the velocity of material evaluation and disposition within the Material Review Board to maintain lean inventory flow.
- Warranty & Field Failure Rates: Analyze post-commissioning failure data to identify design or manufacturing root causes, protecting regional warranty budgets.
Profile Requirements
Education & Experience
- Experience: 12 + years of progressive Quality Assurance leadership in capital equipment manufacturing, with specific expertise spanning tendering QAPs, supplier quality, in-process testing, and customer inspection clearances.
- Domain Expertise: Experience with industrial Air Compressors (screw, centrifugal, reciprocating), Biogas Compressors, and Air Treatment systems (Dryers and Gas Generators) is highly preferred.
- Leadership Scope: Minimum 3 to 5 years leading multi-vertical quality teams within an MNC framework.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering. Six Sigma Green/Black Belt or ASQ certification is highly desirable.
Technical & Professional Competencies
- Dual-Model Quality Execution: Adept at balancing swift quality controls required for high-volume MTO product lines alongside the meticulous document control and traceability required for long-cycle ETO projects.
- Inspection & Sourcing Frameworks: Expert knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and Root Cause methodologies (8D, 5-Why). High proficiency managing TPIAs and customer inspection documentation dossiers.

- Practical knowledge of non-destructive testing (NDT) and high-integrity structural/pressure-retaining welding quality standards (ASME Sec IX).
- Experience verifying heavy metal fabrication tolerances and structural codes.
