Job & Division Summary: 

We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our Product Development team and contribute to the design and development of rotary compressor products. This role involves ownership of mechanical design activities across the full new product development (NPD) lifecycle—from concept and detailed design to testing, release, and field support.

The position requires strong technical expertise, hands-on engineering judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with globally distributed, cross functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Product Design & Development
    • Develop detailed technical specifications in alignment with customer needs and internal product design guidelines.
    • Perform accurate design calculations, analyses, and trade‑off studies to identify optimal solutions.
    • Identify areas requiring analysis and ensure designs meet performance, cost, quality, and reliability requirements.
    • Incorporate field feedback and lessons learned into new designs through DFMEA and continuous improvement practices.
  • Project Execution
    • Develop detailed project schedules and resource plans in coordination with global team members.
    • Execute project plans while meeting schedule, cost, and performance commitments.
    • Participate in and lead technical design reviews throughout the development process.
  • Testing & Validation
    • Develop test plans and validation strategies for prototypes and production designs.
    • Support prototype assembly, installation, and laboratory testing activities.
    • Analyze test data, perform performance calculations, and prepare clear and detailed technical reports.
  • Cross Functional & Supplier Collaboration
    • Provide technical guidance and support to Manufacturing, Technical Services, Sourcing, Quality & Life cycle engineering teams
    • Work closely with suppliers on technical issues, design feasibility, and manufacturability throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Support resolution of warranty claims and field performance issues.
  • Documentation & Release
    • Maintain high quality engineering documentation suitable for design records, project files, and design manuals.
    • Prepare or support Bills of Materials (BOMs), Engineering Change Requests (ECRs/ECNs), and design releases per department procedures.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5–10 years of experience in mechanical design of industrial equipment.
  • Strong proficiency in CREO for complex mechanical assemblies
  • Experience designing cast and machined components for industrial equipment
  • Solid understanding of industrial machine design, preferably rotary or screw compressors
  • Proficient in GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Strong practical understanding of real-world manufacturing, assembly, and service constraints
  • Ability to develop test plans and analyze experimental results
  • Proven experience working in global, matrixed engineering teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical work within project schedules and cost constraints

Desired Skills

  • Experience specifying and selecting bearings, seals, fasteners, and rotating components
  • Familiarity with stage-gate or formal NPD processes
  • Exposure to project management tools and methodologies
  • Knowledge of DFSS tools (DFMEA, DOE, DFM/DFA, 8D)
  • Practical experience with machining and machine shop practices
  • Basic understanding of gear design and bearing system calculations
  • Hands-on experience with FEA (stress, thermal, or modal analysis)

 

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

This position is based in Bangalore, India, with a hybrid work arrangement and travel opportunities to visit suppliers, manufacturing & test laboratories.
