Job Summary: 

The Director, Engineering & New Product Development is responsible for building, leading and continually improving the Engineering & New Product Development structure and team to support brand protection/risk identification and reduction activities, improve process efficiency/cost containment and to support sales and operational activities throughout the organization.  This position uses data-driven-decision making, quality principles, tools and key metrics to drive culture of quality (CoQ) and results-oriented improvements throughout the organization. 

 

Position Objective: 

The director of engineering and new product development is responsible for overseeing the development and design of new products and leading a team of engineers and the creation of these products. This position leads and develops direct reports and cross-functional team members where applicable.  The Director combines expertise in Engineering and New Product Development principles, tools, and techniques with high levels of business acumen to develop people, processes and associated metrics for the improvement of the business. This position is responsible for the improvement and maintenance of the Engineering and New Product Development management system.

 

*Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads, develops and continually upgrades skills and abilities of team
  • Developing and implementing strategies for new product development from ideation to commercialization.
  • Promulgates culture of quality throughout the organization through interactions, teaching and by example
  • Accountable for risk identification and mitigation/brand protection results.
  • Supports sales and operational directives.
  • Demonstrates both a process approach and data driven decision making/metric skills to systematically and objectively improve company performance.
  • Overseas the design and development of new products, ensuring they meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Leading and managing a team of engineers, providing guidance and direction in their work and ensuring that projects are completed on time within and within budget.
  • staying up to date on the latest industry trends and technologies, and incorporating these into product development processes.
  • manage the product development budget and ensuring that resources are used effectively.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, such as suppliers and contract manufacturing to ensure successful product development

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science, Master’s degree or equivalent degree program in Engineering or other STEM field of study.
  • 10+ years’ experience in Engineering with a focus on new product development in the medical device industry.
  • Strong leadership skills, project management experience, and a deep understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
