Job Summary
Responsible for the procurement of specific categories of material and vendors, products such as machined parts, gaskets and O rings, proprietary parts, electronic equipment, castings, forgings and raw materials. Controls parameters within the SAP ERP system, determines economic batch sizes within transport and inventory guidelines and places orders within authority. Maintains SAP material planning system; reviews and adjusts batch sizes in accordance with guidelines to control inventory and maintain overall on-time delivery and availability of parts in order to service the business.
Responsibilities
Working for the Purchasing Manager and with the Operational Purchasing and Supply Chain team, this role involves sourcing a broad spectrum of items as effectively as possible, whilst ensuring technical, quality, Production and aftersales lead-times are met, and pricing is competitive and challenged were not.
This focus will ensure that real value is provided to the organisation; whilst allowing it to meet its operational needs.
The candidate will support in all aspects of Purchasing and Supply Chain management including:
- Sourcing of all goods and services within UK and from overseas suppliers both over the phone and face to face meetings as required.
- Sending out RFQ and analysing quotes and making sourcing decisions and following through to implementation in production or aftersales to tight deadlines set by production and aftersales.
- Responsible for updating all MM SAP purchasing data (source lists, info records, material master MRP settings, for your suppliers and any others as requested by the manager.
- Proactively managing all own suppliers, parts, orders, invoices, deliveries, shortages, quality issues, credits, performance, forecasts and any other as directed by the purchasing manager.
- Proactively managing on time delivery and shortages in production and aftersales using SAP system reports and visible management boards. (O46 Report)
- Becoming competent quickly with the procurement systems (Internal procedures and SAP IE free issue components and sub-contracting.
- Co-Ordinating RFQ from Engineering, Projects work with the team.
- Co-Ordinating ECN engineering changes within the team ensuring they are completed in a timely manner weekly.
- Developing new processes if appropriate with the team and the Purchasing manager.
- Support of all Purchasing team members, assisting in training and also helping with the workload and Holidays.
- Raising and owning daily MRP driven purchase orders and managing end to end delivery via MRP and other means, take the lead in the team for daily MRP completion when required by the manager and other team members due to holidays or absence.
- Raising and owning Ad Hoc Orders non MRP driven.
- Visible management lead Shortage boards) (Team Tasks)
- Quality Issue resolution with suppliers and quality team.
- Support of our aftermarket purchasing and customer service division.
- Lead Time tracking and improvements in communication to customer
- Reporting- assisting with daily, weekly and monthly reports as required, e.g. vendor OTD, PPV, contract management.
- Other Responsibilities as required.
Basic Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience within a manufacturing buying role in the procurement of mechanical components.
- Experience in ordering expediting planning and scheduling and inventory control in a fast-moving production environment.
- Proven experience in the management of suppliers, cost control and negotiation. Experience in sourcing from the far-east an advantage but not essential.
- The ability to develop excellent working relationships with staff at all levels of the organisation and the development of vendors, improving OTD, cost and security of the supply chain.
- Excellent communications skills required.
- Identifying risk in the supply chain and using associated tools in order to de-risk and ensure supply of materials to the schedules and demands of customers.
Education/Training Required:
- Required: Higher Level of education, A Levels or HNC or equivalent, MCIPS or studying for.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and SAP MM
- Ability to read technical drawings an advantage
