Job Description

This role will oversee and coordinate all aspects of assigned NPD and Localisation projects to meet technical, schedule, and cost requirements. Primary responsibilities include initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing business-critical projects and properly managing resources to execute projects that align with strategic organizational goals. The engineer will also participate in long term planning and forecasting of product road maps, localisation and other strategic actions. The successful candidate will be well-versed in all phases of the product life cycle from concept to launch and be able to develop trusting relationships within all levels and functions of the business.

 

Objective of this position

  • Lead and implement all the Localisation activities (desin related) and new product development (NPD) activities in NASH Pune related to Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump/Compressor, Centrifugal Blower/Turo Blower & Dry Screw Vacuum Pump products.
  • Support LRVP/Blower package engineering activities to ensure that all the good engineering practices/standards are followed during the design phase & system design is optimum.
  • Support on other design/package engineering related activities.
  • Co-ordinate with teams while working with Autodesk Vault / PTC Windchill
  • Interrogate designs using FEA and other mathematical tools to minimize risk of large design changes as a result of development test results, including burst testing

 

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Identify new cost reduction opportunities
  • Coordinate local site with the other NASH/IR Region product development activities.
  • Conduct Cost Analysis of components, developed cost calculator tools, identify key characteristics that drive product cost and investigate and developed methods for cost reduction.
  • Develops detailed project schedule and monitors and reports progress to cross-functional and management teams
  • Analyzes historical project execution data to forecast time and resources needed to reach project objectives and manage resources in an effective an efficient manner
  • Develop close relationships across all departments to support buy-in to new solutions.

 

Essential Functions

 

Design & Development

  • Design and develop components and assemblies for use on liquid ring vacuum pumps & blowers. Detail drawings and define materials surface finish requirements. Liaise with suppliers to ensure components are manufactured to drawing using a repeatable process.
  • Lead on bills of material and assembly drawings, liaise with project team to ensure all required information is available to allow full specification of complete assemblies
  • Use FEA and other analysis software to optimise the system components to reduce the weight/cost based on the project requirement.
  • Design and develop complex castings for use on Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps and compressors. Detail drawings and define materials based on strength and surface finish requirements. Liaise with foundries to ensure cast components are manufactured to drawing using a repeatable process.
  • Use FEA and other mathematical tools and specify and monitor burst tests to ensure castings meet all requirements specified by project team.
  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of assigned NPD and i2V projects to meet technical, schedule, and cost requirements.
  • Performs various structural finite element analysis including Static Linear/Non-linear, Modal, Transient, Frequency response, multi body dynamics etc

 

Planning

  • Produce a full range of documentation and ensure suitable change control is implemented.
  • Produce and implement supplier visit plans to maximize effectiveness of time spent out of office.
  • Prepare material masters and bills of material and other ERP data as necessary.
  • Monitor the progress of project equipment through design and build process and help resolve any issues impacting progress.

 

Cost Management

  • Monitor project costs and/or adjustments, paying attention to the original targets set and advising management when deviations occur.
  • Visit suppliers as necessary to ensure good technical understanding/compliance.

 

Timelines

  • Develop project time estimates and product cost comparisons, commercial parts and technical data.

 

Production

  • Create test procedures for projects and oversees factory acceptance tests.
  • May oversee production processes, suggesting changes in working methods or sequences in order to improve efficiencies of project timelines.

Documentation

  • Co-ordinates and maintains all Engineering documents and design change information at the facility.
  • Creates functional descriptions/procedures for specific projects.

 

Quality

  • Follows ISO guidelines regarding design and production of new/revised products. Assists manufacturing and quality control in correcting any problems encountered in the machine shop or on the assembly floor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 6-8 years of experience in Pump/Compressor industry. Project management certification preferred.

 

Key Competencies:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of rotating equipment and package operation, design principles and manufacturing processes like Casting, machining etc.
  • Passionate self-starter, with demonstrated knowledge, experience and drive to inspire and coach others to reach their full potential
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage time and resources effectively through change and ambiguity
  • Proficient in the use of MS office tools like Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
  • Prefer experience using PM (MS Project or equivalent), PLM (Windchill or equivalent), CAD, Autodesk Inventor and other tools as needed.
  • UG / NX experience is preferred.
