Job Summary

This role presents a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring apprentice to join our organisation and undertake a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship and gain invaluable exposure to the operations and roles within the manufacturing industry.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship pathway the candidate will take on the role of Design Engineer within the eMobility engineering team.

Throughout the apprenticeship and once qualified the successful candidate will apply engineering theories and principles to undertake design of new product and support engineering change requests, ensuring the design, product characteristics and documentation meet the requirements of the product specification, quality standards and cost targets.
The design engineer will assume responsibility for key deliverables ensuring they are completed on time and to a high standard.

As a key member of the eMobility engineering team, the successful candidate will adopt a ‘hands-on’ approach and contribute their ideas to the new product development, cost saving (i2v) and sustaining engineering activities.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for concept to production product design and project activities in NPD, new customer packages, product change requests (PCRs), and i2V initiatives
  • Responsible for day-to-day creation and maintenance of component part, sub-assembly, and product models and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor and Vaule
  • Responsible for day-to-day creation and maintenance of materials, bills of materials, (BOMs), documents, and engineering change notifications (ECNs) within the company SAP system and following departmental procedures
  • Ensure design information and data are complete and accurate
  • Evaluate existing products for engineering change based on issues raised by customers, suppliers or internal team
  • Work to agreed time and cost targets
  • Determine product costs, place purchase orders and expedite prototype components
  • Assist in development test & validation activities and prototype build as necessary
  • Maintain confidentiality of company designs and intellectual property
  • Follow up appropriately in flagging and correcting errors
  • Ensure compilation and collation of relevant documentation meets company, customer and total quality requirements
  • Follow departmental / ISO / IATF standards and guidelines regarding design and development
  • Keep abreast of new design approaches and technologies and, where appropriate, make suggestions to implement such technologies to improve efficiencies
  • Visit suppliers and customers as necessary
  • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required within the scope of the role

 

Training Provided

As part of the apprenticeship the candidate will achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (Foundation Knowledge)
  • Level 2 Award Foundation Gateway Assessment
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Engineering (Developmental Competence/ NVQ)

Throughout the apprenticeship support will be provided by your apprentice supervisor within the team, your line manager and the wider team offering valuable insight and experience to support your development. 

Basic Qualifications

  • 5 GCSEs to include:
    • English; Grades 9-5
    • Maths; Grades 9-5
    • Science or equivalent

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

  • Site based; Redditch UK
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday – Friday
  • Limited travel required to suppliers and customers at manager discretion.
