JOB DESCRIPTION The Principal Extrusion Engineer is responsible for providing our Extrusion Engineering team with the advanced vision, technology, project leadership, and tooling & equipment expertise for extrusion development.  This role involves collaboration with project teams to establish requirements, develop and validate extrusion processes, and support both NPI and production operations, including lean & continuous improvement initiatives. The Principal Extrusion Engineer will lead technical aspects of new product development, mentor junior engineers, and ensure adherence to quality and regulatory standards.

 

 

KEY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote safety through leadership in process safety analysis, ergonomic assessments, and process improvement activities.
  • Provide overall Extrusion technical expertise and guidance to NPI Engineering and Production Operations.  Lead and direct technical aspects of new production or process development programs.
  • Provide senior leadership on Extrusion NPI Projects and amongst the NPI engineering department, on new product introduction process in all Extrusion Tooling and Equipment Specification, and validation IQ, OQ and PQ stages, including engineering support for mass production.
  • Interact with customers to maintain and improve relationships
  • Review and approve engineering designs, reports, and specifications.
  • Track extrusion resource utilization and assess resource requirements for new projects or programs
  • Utilize lean process technology and automation during NPI execution to continuously improve the manufacturing environments driving cost leadership, world class quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Plan, implement, and execute complex engineering projects, including defining the project philosophy, activities, milestones, and staff requirements per customer requirements.
  • Evaluate and select equipment to support process upgrades and new product introductions.
  • Serve as an advisor to management and customers on advanced technical processes and applications and in the assessment of new opportunities.
  • Hands on, Lead without authority by example. Be hands on providing mentoring and training to the Engineering team for growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive engineering experience in extrusion or related field including recent experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Thorough knowledge of ISO 13485 and FDA Quality System requirements
  • Well-developed skills in planning, executing, and delivering projects on time and on budget.
  • Strong foundation in problem-solving and project management methodologies such as 6-Sigma, 8D, RCA, and/or PMP
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to develop technical knowledge and capability in others, specifically less experienced engineers
  • Knowledge of finance, sales and marketing as related to development and manufacturing

  • 100% onsite
  • 20% travel may be required
