Senior Project Manager

Flexan is a global strategic contract manufacturer of custom high-quality silicone and thermoplastic components, sub-assemblies and devices designed to meet the critical requirements of Class I, Class II and Class III medical devices, as well as custom compounding and molding for precision parts.

The Senior Project Manager is a critical leadership role with the responsibility and authority to lead large, complex projects and teams within the scope of product development and continuous improvement. Work is accomplished through matrixed employees/teams and/or suppliers who are not direct reports but for which the incumbent has direct accountability to lead and achieve project objectives.

The Senior Project Manager will be assigned to the most complex projects within Flexan, including but not limited to large tech transfers, global multi-site operation launches, and large capital and continuous improvement projects. The Senior Project Manager must be an active driver of project and company success and will be expected to seek all compliant avenues to achieve this success. This leader must consistently demonstrate a sense of urgency and organization.

KEY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITES: 

  •  Leads the project team through the Flexan’s Stage-Gate Process. In compliance with this process, the Senior Project Manager will:
    • Lead the development of a complex quote for a project by coordinating with multiple resources to obtain data necessary to quote all of the projected expenses needed to complete the project.
    • Establish the scope of the project, identifying where more information is needed, and developing project charters.
    • Establish and maintain detailed project schedules using Adobe Workfront software
    • Conduct Stage-Gate Reviews with Senior Team in a professional and unbiased manner. 
    • Measure project success and metrics – on time and on budget included
    • Identify potential upcoming issues in projects and leads the team to resolve them
    • Lead the production transfer process with plant management, ensuring proper handoff of activities from the new product development team to the production team
    • Perform lessons learned on projects and make information available to other project teams. Ensures adherence to quality standards and quality system. 
  • Provide active leadership of cross functional teams. The Senior Project Manager will not have any direct reports but will be required to lead by both example and influence to enable project success.
  • Assist more junior project managers within the company with project organization techniques and share expertise to better the company
  • Provide weekly updates to established reporting structures, including but not limited to Project Dashboards, Gantt Charts, Tooling and NRE Invoice Status, and Milestone Trackers.
  • Measure and assess the effectiveness and performance of project teams and provide input regarding the performance of individuals on the teams. 
  • Learn the business aspects of the project by spending time with our customers and sales force to gain and improve knowledge about product application and to better understand customer needs related to project/programs within their area of responsibility. 
  • Learn the technical aspects of the project by spending time with our engineering and operations teams, including time on-machine, to help solve technical and systematic problems when they arise on assigned projects
  • Take a leadership role in Continuous Improvement through focused projects and also through identifying areas where the Stage-Gate Process and other company processes can be improved. Lead implementation of these changes.
  • All activities must be performed in compliance with Flexan’s Quality System. 
  • Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or government regulations. 
  • All other duties as assigned by management

Minimum Qualifications 

  • BA / BS in Engineering or similar related field
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificate or equivalent certification  
  • Minimum of five years’ formal project management experience in a medical device manufacturing environment.  Must have experience in managing on-site projects, with direct access to the manufacturing environment.
  • Technical knowledge and experience with thermoplastic and silicone extrusion and molding is a plus
  • Exceptional leadership skills, demonstrating the ability to influence and inspire others to reach a project or company goal.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to effectively manage extremely complex projects, timelines, and deliverables
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to inform and influence at all levels of an organization internally and externally
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills to address inevitable obstacles and challenges encountered by the team
  • Strong analytical skills with emphasis on effective financial and budget management
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project Planning software required. Adobe Workfront experience is a plus. Experience with statistical data software such as Minitab is preferred.
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 20%
