Job Title: Supply Chain/Materials Leader

POSITION SUMMARY: The Supply Chain Leader supports operations by managing a team that develops and executes the master schedule for a plant level business unit. The role is responsible for developing both the material plan and production plan to execute the plant forecasted shipment targets.  Establishing the master schedule will involve working closely with operations leaders, material planners, production planners, and others to coordinate manufacturing plans that achieve the company objectives relative to customer service, efficient resource/capacity utilization and inventory investment. The Supply Chain Leader will be responsible for leading a team of planners who will analyze scenarios that balance demand and supply while optimizing inventory and minimizing the impact of demand volatility. The Supply Chain Leader will also lead efforts to negotiate and secure cost savings to achieve inventory goals.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities of the Supply Chain Leader include the following job duties.  The responsibilities are not limited to these tasks:

 

  • Translate the monthly SIOP consensus plan by product family to a detailed weekly master production schedule (MPS) with a 12–18-month planning horizon into the ERP for weekly MRP generation
  • Monitor and drive resolution of MRP processing errors.
  • Support customer service with exception request analysis and expediting resolution.
  • Create and publish daily/weekly/monthly factory schedule adherence, capacity, and inventory reports.
  • Serve as a factory subject matter expert (SME) for ERP production planning and scheduling modules as it relates to a single business unit.
  • Identification and resolution of Constraints - Capacity, Resource & Material.
  • Facilitates long term capacity assessment (RCCP) and development of countermeasure/action plans.
  • Conducts a demonstrated lead-time analysis and measures gap to published lead times. Drives corrective action plan and reviews and updates published lead-times.
  • Data analysis and reporting of key performance indicators such as: delivery performance, backlog, performance to master schedule and inventory turns. 
  • Drives continuous process improvement, strives to improve efficiency, likely to challenge processes where favorable alternatives may be available. 
  • Timely management of exception messages generated by the ERP system.
    Maintain data integrity of ERP planning parameters.  Parameters such as lead times, lot sizes, safety stocks, delivery times, and order file data for all master scheduled items
  • Coordinates with planners to meet assigned goals for serviceability and inventory.
  • Engages with suppliers to secure flow of inventory to support the plant’s shipment goal.
  • Develop, coach and mentor team to achieve outstanding results.
  • Develops accurate ways to monitor agreements with suppliers to secure future cost savings and/or to achieve inventory goals
  • A capable problem solver who can arrive at root cause and apply solutions to reduce supply disruptions and hit inventory targets.
  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance to resolve quality issues with suppliers.
  • May lead and direct others to accomplish desired organizational objectives.
  • Expedite deliveries to meet and exceed scheduled critical requirements.
  • Maintain material plan at the time fence to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Resolve invoicing discrepancies with suppliers and accounting.
  • Maintains item master lead time information based upon process improvements, current constraints, total current demand by product family, and priority information.
  • Interface with required functional groups to resolve challenging delivery requirements.
  • Communicate forecasts and replenishment plans to supplier.
  • Review open requirements, monitoring vendor performance and expediting where necessary. Ensure that problems relating to delivery, quality or pricing are promptly conveyed to the supplier and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Productivity: identify and implement cost reduction/productivity projects to meet the corporate initiatives/goals. Maintain pipeline and financial records for reporting and tracking productivity
  • Manages projects and other duties as needed

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise a team of Buyers and Material Planners.

  • Ability to effectively make complex decisions with limited time and information and can determine decision making criteria based on priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines with internal and external resources.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, with a basic understanding of statistical analysis techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, independent problem resolution, proven leadership ability, and the ability to manage the requirement of others.
  • Comfortable leading discussion and debate both within peer group and with matrix business partners, operational partners, and leaders.
  • Data access/retrieval skills with extensive experience in data analysis, data manipulation using MS Excel and/or other tools as provided.
  • Working knowledge of ERP system.

 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • BS/BA degree in business or engineering discipline preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in analyzing data relating to product forecasting, master scheduling, or shipment forecasting.
  • Experience with rate-based or flow line (non-MRP) and job shop manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in operations, inventory management, MRP and lean manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with visual management systems.
  • Has a strong understanding of manufacturing including but not limited to assembly, machining, and castings. 
  • Understands global logistics and how to track incoming supply.
  • Skills include a strong understanding of MRP, Microsoft office products, communication skills written and verbal.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must be able to travel as required.
  • CPIM certification preferred.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must wear OSHA approved safety glasses, hearing protection and steel toe safety shoes. Gloves are required to be worn when handling or moving parts. OSHA approved hearing protection (ANSI approved ear plugs) is required when on the shop floor. Painters must wear a respirator.
