Summary of Position

Apply knowledge of material, engineering theory, and methods in a heavy industrial environment to design, integrate, and improve manufacturing systems or related processes. Responsible to create, document, develop and implement manufacturing processes to facilitate execution of the business plan, drive continuous improvement by creating and improving Standard Work, and investigate and execute real time problem resolution.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of machinig and fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, product design, materials and operator input.
  • Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods, such as Lean Six Sigma and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods without bias or blame.
  • Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing with emphasis on fixtures, tooling and CNC equipment.
  • Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing manufacturing problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
  • Review product designs for manufacturability and completeness.
  • Train production personnel in new or existing methods.
  • Serve as project manager on designated projects, assembling teams, communicating goals, and reporting progress to stakeholders.
  • Design, install, or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment.
  • Prepare documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as Lean Six Sigma to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
  • Investigate or resolve operational problems such as material use variances and bottlenecks.
  • Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs.
  • Evaluate manufactured products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Purchase equipment, materials, or parts.
  • Design layout of equipment or workspaces to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Design testing methods and test finished products or process capabilities to establish standards or validate process requirements.
  • Read current literature, talk with colleagues, participate in educational programs, attend meetings, attend workshops, or participate in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in the field.
  • Prepare reports summarizing information or trends related to manufacturing performance.
  • Demonstrate excellence in completion of all other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements / Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required
  • 7+ years relevant engineering experience may be substituted for degree
  • Previous experience in SAP or other ERP type systems is preferred
  • Superior analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication, project management and organizational skills.  Must be capable to work in a fast paced, creative, results-oriented atmosphere.

 

Experience / Skill Requirements          

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a metal manufacturing environment preferred.
  • CNC Machining, Tooling and Programming experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Ability to accurately measure and read calipers, micrometers, dial bore gauges, etc.
  • Ability to identify problems and determine root cause.
  • 2D and 3D (Solidworks, AutoCad, CREO, etc) and CAD/CAM (CAMworks, Mastercam, etc.) experience preferred.
  • Microsoft Suite software experience required (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, etc.)

 

Physical Requirements

  • Stand/ walk for long period of time, both indoor and outdoor.
  • Working environment temperatures vary substantially.
  • Must be able to stand on feet for up to 8 hours.
  • Regular use of wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Close visual acuity to create/read schematics, drawings and/or a computer screen.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
