Job & Division Summary:
The Design Engineer will be responsible for Systematic reduction of manufacturing costs through the design optimization of an existing robot system for laboratory automation. This role requires expertise in cost-effective design practices (VAVE, Design-to-Cost) and proficiency in advanced CAD tools. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions for complex measurement and automation systems.
Responsibilities
- Design simplification
- Standardization of assemblies and components
- Optimization of manufacturing and assembly concepts
- Selection, evaluation, and integration of purchased components (drives, sensors, control electronics, linear systems, standard parts)
- Close collaboration with purchasing, manufacturing, and external suppliers for cost, supplier, and make-or-buy optimization
Mandatory Skills
- Ideally 5 years of experience in mechanical design, ideally in the areas of Robotic or Automation Technology and Value engineering.
- Experience with VAVE and Design-to-Cost methodologies.
- A very good understanding of cost-effective and manufacturable design.
- Strong experience of Aluminum and sheet metal constructions, Standard profile and linear technology
- High proficiency in Solid Edge CAD software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desired skills:
- Experience in designing equipment used in Pharma industry.
- Experience with automated instruments, CMM, lab equipment, or complex multi-axis systems.
- Knowledge of precision motion control, or system-level integration.
- Exposure to Primus PLM and SolidEdge CAD environment
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
- 3–6 years of experience in Experience with VAVE and Design-to-Cost methodologies.
