Job & Division Summary:

The Analytical Engineer – Mechanical Simulation (FEA) is responsible for leading structural and thermal simulation activities for pumps, valves, vacuum systems, and precision fluid‑control components. This position works closely with global engineering teams to conduct complex analyses, optimize designs, reduce risk, and validate product performance. The role requires significant expertise in FEA methodologies, material behaviour, and mechanical system modelling—ideally applied to pump technologies. This engineer acts as an internal consultant and mentor to cross‑functional teams, driving improved product robustness and accelerated development cycles

The purpose of the role is to provide advanced technical leadership in the analysis, simulation, and validation of mechanical components and systems across the Flow Control Solutions (FCS) portfolio. This role ensures mechanical integrity, reliability, and performance of fluid‑handling products through expert‑level finite element analysis (FEA) using the ANSYS simulation suite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead advanced FEA modeling and simulation efforts across FCS product lines using ANSYS Mechanical (static, dynamic, thermal, modal, nonlinear).
  • Own simulation deliverables during new product development, sustaining engineering, and problem‑solving initiatives.
  • Interpret, validate, and document simulation results; provide clear, actionable recommendations to design teams.
  • Develop high‑fidelity 3D models, material definitions, and boundary conditions for highly accurate simulation outcomes.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis for mechanical failures, manufacturing issues, and field performance deviations.
  • Guide design optimization efforts including geometry refinement, fatigue prediction, and safety‑factor analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (design, manufacturing, NPD, quality) to integrate simulation insights into product decisions.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate engineers in simulation best practices and ANSYS tool usage.
  • Maintain simulation standards, workflows, and documentation to support consistency and continuous improvement.
  • Support customer‑specific applications requiring mechanical performance validation or risk assessment.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, design reviews, and executive‑level presentations.

Mandatory Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in ANSYS Mechanical (Workbench, Classic, meshing, nonlinear analysis, contacts).
  • Strong understanding of stress analysis, fatigue, fracture mechanics, and material science.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities applied to mechanical systems.
  • Strong communication abilities—able to clearly explain complex simulation results to non‑specialists.
  • Ability to lead and influence cross‑functional engineering discussions.
  • Experience working with pump, valve, vacuum, or other fluid‑handling devices strongly preferred.
  • High level of self‑organization and urgency in driving simulation deliverables.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of delivering high‑quality simulation results to support engineering decisions.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous mechanical concerns into structured simulation projects.
  • Strong mechanical comprehension and ability to interpret detailed drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with DFMEA, DVP&R, and reliability engineering principles.
  • Experience participating in and leading root‑cause investigations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands‑on FEA experience using ANSYS in product development or sustaining engineering.
  • Experience in pump, valve, vacuum, or fluid‑handling product environments strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent).
  • Experience with design validation testing and correlation of simulation with physical test results.
